From Sunday, April 30 through Tuesday, May 2, Rolling Counterpoint took part in the 2017 Othering & Belonging Conference, an event presented by the Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society at UC Berkeley. The conference, which took place in downtown Oakland, was a dynamic gathering of a diverse group of attendees, visionary speakers, exhibiting artists, leading scholars, and emerging change-makers all coming together to develop concrete strategies and aspirational visions for a world centered on inclusion. Hattori was chosen as one of ten artistic participants.
Installed in the atrium of the event hotel, Rolling Counterpoint was the site of a number of impassioned conversations conducted over tea and focused on inclusivity, justice, and equity. Participants again completed cards with their thoughts about division and belonging, and pinned these to the sides of the teahouse. Please see below to view documentation from this event.
