On Sunday, May 7, 2017, parishioners and local community members gathered at the Covenant Worship Center in Berkeley—one of the fastest growing churches in the San Francisco East Bay—to engage with Taro Hattori at Rolling Counterpoint. Conversations, which took place over tea, focused on issues especially relevant to the neighborhood, including ongoing concerns about gentrification and community displacement. After the conversations were complete, guests smashed their teacups to demonstrate the fragility of community. Guests also completed cards with their concerns about belonging, which they pinned to the teahouse.
